A while back when I was in Plettenberg Bay up in the Western Cape, myself and Jason Clifton took a drive along the main highway that heads up to Port Elizabeth. We were surprised when we stumbled across a strange turn off that headed off along a dusty dirt road.
Being someone who loves to explore and loves adventure, it was decided that we were going to follow the road and see where it took us. The road went through an area filled with trees and eventually came to a clearing not too far along. The clearing was what looked like a open quarry filled with stone.
We started off our adventure by taking a few photos of the Jeep. This location was perfect as the grey stone really made the silver Jeep stand out. Jason being an Automotive photographer really knew all the right angles and lighting to capture the Jeep in the best possible way.
As we carried on driving along the road, we got taken into a mystical pine forest. This is exactly what we were looking for, as we were looking to take photos with an almost tumblr - like feel to them.
As we stepped out of the Jeep, we were engulfed by nothing but forest and trees that went on for miles. The smell of pine in the air and the crunch of pine needles under foot. It was almost unreal, as if we had stepped into a magical land of some sort. It felt as if we were somewhere over seas and no longer in South Africa.
We managed to stroll around abit and ended up taking some awesome photos, most of which ended up being landscape images and photos of the scenery. The photos taken by me were taken using the standard Canon kit lens and the photos taken by Jason Clifton where taken using the 50mm f1.8.
When it came to editing these photos, I made them quite dark and eerie. This gave an air of mystery to them. I also added a fade, which give them a tumblr - like feel and made them look more mystical. The way in which they were edited almost gives the location a sense of magic, as if out of a fairytale.
